Losing weight with a thyroid dysfunction can be very tough, especially when the problem is hypothyroidism.
But it is not impossible. So don’t lose hope!
I have found ways around my hypothyroidism that are very effective against weight gain. They have helped me lose weight and keep it off for a long time.
I want to share some of these methods with you now, but these methods have a few conditions…
The first condition is that you have the correct mindset when you start to pursue your weight loss goal. Without the correct mindset you will fail inevitably. I have seen it happen first hand.
I wanted to lose weight fast, so I jumped into a routine thinking I would just shred off the pounds like a hot knife through butter. OHH NO!
I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I jumped the gun big time. I had no clear set objective, except “to lose weight” and that wasn’t specific enough.
I thought just because I really wanted it bad it would all work out, and fast, but I was really wrong. I was impatient and everything just went downhill. I ended up failing myself.
But I picked myself back up and got my head on my shoulders. This time I did it right.
I thought out exactly what I wanted and wrote it down. I made a calendar and wrote my goals on it for each month(the amount of weight I wanted to lose) and I put it on my refrigerator.
I put it their to remind me that it is not a short term goal. That this is a commitment and it will take time to lose the weight with a thyroid condition. It is a uphill battle when trying to lose weight, whether you have a thyroid condition or not.
If you do have a condition the odds are stacked against you and you must push on with double the effort and triple the determination. I remind myself that being a female and losing weight is near impossible, but doing it with hypothyroidism is miraculous.
Keep your head up though.
And keep your head out of the gutter, that won’t help you lose weight. The only thing that is going to help you lose weight is exercise, portioning and controlling your cravings… I know, it seems really tough.
Just think about a box of chocolates as a box of toxins and fast food as death all together. You have to train your brain to do this.
It is tough and very annoying, especially if you crave chocolate like i did. I will admit I do indulge time to time, but not nearly as often as I use to.
You have to acquire these skills though if you really want to succeed in your weight loss goal or goals. Sometimes you have to sacrifice something great to attain something great. I’m pretty sure somebody famous said that.
Anyways… Chocolate is a no-no, fast food … NO, candy in general try to stay away from. I know it is tough as heck, but it will save you so much extra effort if you cut the junk food.(especially sodas)Yes,even diet soda.
That is what I have to say about your mindset to succeed in weight loss. Now for food portioning. No, I am not talking about eating all of your food in the morning or all at night. or eating grapes your entire life, because none of those are successful.
I am talking about a very simple and effective technique that I implemented that cut over 20 lbs off my body the first few months I started it. It is so simple you might laugh…
Ready?
All you have to do is take away a portion of your regular meals and eat a bit less. Now it sounds easy, right?
Some might say “yeah, that is totally easy”
But the truth of it is that reducing you regular portions takes discipline… A lot of discipline. If you are use to eating out at Italian restaurants than you are very accustomed to eating very large portions of pasta. Now I could never in my life finish a bowl of pasta at an Italian restaurant, but I definitely tried. They are tasty.
Your stomach will actually stretch to an extent to accommodate for the food that it has to take in over time.
Here is where portioning comes in. When you start to reduce your portions, and you are use to eating big. You will be hungry, but you have to discipline yourself to resist. Drink water, plenty of water. It fills you up and helps you flush your body.
Over time though your stomach will shrink down and after being more use to smaller portioned meals you won’t be as hungry, thus allowing you to eat less and be more satisfied with smaller portions.
It is the simplest, most effective method I have come across in my weight loss voyage.
Broken down… take your current meals and decrease its size by what ever amount you feel comfortable with. If you can keep on decreasing, but still eat healthy amounts.
Okay. that is my dirty little secret to weight loss. Not many women can muster up the discipline to carry it out, that is why it remains my dirty little secret and no others.
Now for my exercise plan, routine, regiment. Whatever you wish to call it. I created this little plan a while back while my hypothyroidism was still a real bother, constantly slowing me down and stealing my energy right form under me.
So understand, you can do this.
First, you have to know the basic limits of your body. You don’t want to injure yourself. It is mind over matter in my world ladies. Soak that up and live it to its fullest because that is the only way you will make it through your thyroid disorder and lose weight at the same time.
Okay. first thing I have in my routine is stretching. Every morning I wake up and do good stretches. Just stretch every muscle you can think of. From the basic hands to the toes to the hands over the back.
Go crazy, but don’t sprain anything. It’s just stretching. It really gets the blood flowing in the morning and will give you a nice boost of energy to start off your day.
After you have stretched and you feel really good and loose, go about your day until you have some free time and then do a bit of pilates , yeah pilates. No joke here. I am serious, they work.
Go buy a DVD with some instructions or read an online instructional guide on how to start. If you haven’t noticed all of these workouts so far are low effort high calorie burn. Guess what is next on my list? Yoga! Yoga is another great way to get the weight off, and terrific for limbering up.
I have used this technique for years now and it has worked wonders for me. I hope it works for you.
Sincerely,
Kat
